Common questions

Do I need an account?

No. Open the app and pick a course. There is nothing to sign up for.

Does it work on Apple Watch?

Yes. Start a round on your iPhone and the Watch shows the same hole and yardages, using its own location.

Why does it ask for my location?

JustYards measures the distance from where you stand to the green, so it needs your location during a round you start. It also uses one location fix to list nearby courses. Your location stays on your device. See the privacy policy.

Does it keep using location after my round?

No. Location keeps working while your phone is locked during a round, and stops when you tap End Round. A round ends on its own eight hours after it started.

Why do some holes show only a center yardage?

On some courses the map has only the middle of each green, so the app shows the center distance and leaves front and back empty rather than guess. That is the course data, not your GPS.

The hole changed on its own.

After you have been on a green and walk away, JustYards can move to the next hole. Back undoes it, and it reverts if you return to that green within three minutes. Turn it off in the iPhone Settings menu, which also covers the Watch.

My course is missing, or a green is in the wrong place.

Report it from inside the app: use "Report a problem with hole N" while playing, or long-press a course in the picker. To ask for a missing course, search for it in the picker. You can also email pete@hcut.net with the course name, the town and the hole.

Can I play a course that is not in the app yet?

Yes. Start it, pick 9 or 18 holes, and place each green yourself by tapping the map. Those greens stay on your phone.

Does it work without a signal?

Download the course before you play. Yardages work from GPS alone, but the satellite map comes from Apple Maps and may not load without a connection.

When can I download it?
